UPMC Beacon Hospital on Dublin, Ireland, has received an award for excellence for delivering pioneering treatments in stereotactic radiosurgery treatment. This groundbreaking technology is used to treat cancer by delivering high dose radiotherapy to the specific locations of small tumors. Since 2008, over 500 patients have received stereotactic radiosurgery treatment at the National Centre for Radiosurgery @ UPMC Beacon, the only hospital in Ireland which offers this service.
Singapore-based and Australia-listed Asian Centre for Liver Diseases & Transplantation (ACLDT), announced today it has formalized an agreement with UPMC, a $10-billion integrated global health enterprise headquartered in Pittsburgh, to develop a Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC) in Singapore to treat liver, kidney, stem cell, and bone marrow diseases.
In a major milestone for a project that will expand scientific research in Italy, architectural firm HOK has been selected as lead architect for a new biomedical research center to be built in Sicily. The Biomedical Research and Biotechnology Center (BRBC), to be managed by UPMC and funded by the Italian government, is expected to open in 2016 and will eventually employ more than 600 scientists and other staff.
