UPMC Transplant Services

UPMC is a pioneer in organ transplantation and continues to innovate in this field. In fact, our transplant program was founded in 1981 by the late Thomas E. Starzl, MD, PhD, whose foresight, perseverance, and commitment made him the modern-day father of organ transplantation.

UPMC provides a full range of world-renown transplant services in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, (U.S.) as well as in Palermo, Italy at IRCCS ISMETT, a highly regarded center of excellence for transplantation throughout the Mediterranean.

In Pittsburgh, UPMC Transplant Services is led by Abhinav Humar, MD, division chief of transplant surgery and George Mazariegos, MD, chief of pediatric transplant surgery. In Italy, the team is led by Angleo Luca and Jean de Ville de Goyet.
